Best Juicers, Juice Extractors

Oscar 930 Pro Juicer Review

Oscar has reinvented the whole wheel by turning on the ends of Single Auger Juicer, giving it a juicer screen having a much bigger surface area. And the result has been quite spectacular – the Oscar 930 Pro Juicer which is able to enable gravity to press on the juice through much faster compared to the likes of a traditional masticating juicer. So the larger juicing screen speeds up the juice flow. The Oscar 930 Pro has all the making of a classy slow speed juicer and is able to produce juice as fast as a centrifugal juicer machine with the production of yield as good as its VitalMax DA 900. Oscar was pretty clear of its end users when it brought out the 930 Pro Juicer as this machine fast went on to become a top choice for restaurants and juice bars. As it is designed to fit well on any kitchen worktop, it became an obvious choice for serious home enthusiast. Like it or not, let us talk about the Oscar 930 Pro in the subsequent review.

First Impression:

When we were first introduced to the Oscar 930, we were smitten. The Oscar 930 Pro Juicer is known to the consumers in the US as Hurom Slow Juicer HU-100. It is gratifying to know that the Oscar 930 is built by the same manufacturer in Korea who had originally manufactured its gear juicer. Guess what, it immediately captured our attention owing to the fabulous track record. Built with a self-feeding chute, the leading edge of auger slices and takes in leafy greens, fruits and veggies quite well and grinds them between the wider surface areas of the juicing screen and auger. The juicer shares some commonalities with the Omega VERT VRT330, though with subtle variations. Both the juicers are built in the same manufacturing plant in Korea, though sold and marketed under different brand names. So only a fine line differentiates the Oscar 930 Pro Juicer with the Omega VRT330. But this said, you can always choose between the pricing and the branding and this of course should not be a baffling decision.

Weight:

The weight of the machine prevents it from ‘running’ when in operation. The machine is pretty heavy at 11.5 pounds which makes it relatively stable. And this is predominantly because of the mighty motor-gearbox combo just at the heart of the juicing machine.

The build-up:

Built for heavy juicing, the Oscar 930 Pro Tabletop style juicer is an eye-grabber in two brilliant colours – Chrome or white finish. The build quality is pretty convincing making use of commercial grade, high quality materials. Built with Food-Grade poly carbonate & BPA-free melamine, the material is non-toxic and is relatively easy to maintain. There are not much moving parts and cleaning the machine is a doddle. Constructed to last, the Oscar Pro is durable enough to withstand even the heaviest of commercial use.

Designed with a small footprint, the high speed juicer does not eat up much of the space on the kitchen worktop and that is a big sigh of relief with users who are pressed for space. It is noticeably quiet as you would expect in any other slow speed juicer machine. And that’s not all as it has a lot more tricks in its bag.

Coming to the actual design, the Oscar 930 Pro is a single auger juicer and is obviously a total re-think of traditional juicer design. The manufacturer is of the claim that the auger is so tough, that it is about 8 times supposedly harder than the auger of several other single gear juicers that we had tested. The juicer is laid out upright with the gearbox and motor under the juicing drum. This gives the machine a bigger feed tube and larger drum diameter. The juicer machine gives you semi commercial operation and despite the fact that it is built short of a large whole feed fruit tube, it does provide quiet operation and pretty swift juicing, thanks to its big kidney shaped feed tube. You will find a handle on the side built to help easily carry or move the heavy unit, so the juicer is appreciably portable.

The quality is evident even in the juicing parts that are generously moulded and look chunky. So, you can expect a whole lot of quality juice from the upper end of the machine. The machine itself feels well built, heavy and squat. It is quite easy to strip and make use of a smart counter that rotates an internal squeegee wiping the inside of the drum and the juicer screen. This clever bit of design keeps the machine clean and minimises the cleaning part. The big juice strainer comes with an attachment, unique in every way in that it has silicon wiper blades which clean up the sides of the bowl. The self-cleaning mechanism saves you a bit of time, making cleaning-up a lot easier.

Motor:

In contrast to other conventional centrifugal speed juicers, the Oscar 930 Pro juicer can retain 60% more enzymes and nutrients in its juice extract. The juicer is powerfully driven by a 70 RPM Single phase induction motor along with a cooling fan and capacitor. It requires a voltage of 90-240V for operation. The construction of the machine is such that there is no real horizontal stress on the motor.

Feed chute:

The Oscar 930 Pro juicer measures 40cm (L) x 17cm (W) x 25cm (H), the feed chute opening is wide at about 2.25″ x 1.25″ and this means you need to slice up the fruits lengthwise. The pulp jug measures 12cm (L) x 9cm (W). We did try pushing in the carrot first and subsequently cucumber cutting it lengthwise into 4 pieces and did we mention that it was as easy as pie. This perhaps could also save your preparation time. Though you have a food pusher supplied by the manufacturer, most things you push in would go down by gravity and therefore is self-feeding.  Therefore, you may need the food pusher only when have to push in leafy vegetables and other veggies that will have trouble going down the chute. There is no need to make use of the tamper unless there is any block in the feeding chute.

Silicone brushes & seal:

The silicone brushes rotate in the opposite direction to the auger and sweeps the juice off the juicer screen and stops the blocking of the screen, giving you an increased rate of flow. The brushes make sure the inside of the juice bowl is spic and span. The pressure applied by the silicone seal at the small pulp outlet yields a much drier pulp.

How does the Oscar 930 Pro work?

The Oscar 930 Pro Juicer employs Low Speed Technology System (patented LSTS) and as we mentioned earlier in the review, it falls into the ‘Slow Juicer’ range because it works at only 70 RPM and not like a centrifugal juicer in the 3000~7000 RPM range. But do not get goofed up by the name as it can actually does its intended work of extracting juicer much quicker than the centrifugal version and gives out a much drier pulp with a high rate of yield.

The manufacturer has only built upon the single-gear juicer mechanism giving the machine an upright construction. The auger is roundish and fat instead of the long auger that we are so accustomed to in other types of gear juicers. You do not need to wait for twin gears or single auger to slowly chip away at pieces of veggies and fruits while applying downward pressure to the tamper. The machine is nicely balanced and the single auger does not wobble around turning evenly beside the motor. There is a bigger surface area on the auger and this means increased grinding of the pulp.

The gear sits pretty fine in the juicing chamber and does its job of crushing food stuffs to nicety. Before it expels the pulp out, it receives a second pressing and an extra bit of squeezing producing maximum yield. The extraction method is apparently pressing and masticating (courtesy, its screw-like auger). Do not expect the Oscar 930 Pro Juicer to break up woody steams, tough leathery skins and hard seeds must not be fed into this juicer either.  It is always recommended to slice hard large veggies including beetroot and carrot into smaller chunks to avoid putting too much pressure or strain on the juicing parts.

The mechanism tear opens the cell membranes of the produce, releasing its deep-seated enzymes and nutrients. Further the break up of more phytonutrients from your produce results in a much richer, coloured juice extract that is also rich in minerals and nutrients. The slower RPM makes sure that it does not bring about any disruption of the cellular structure of the veggies and fruits. This process eliminates oxidation of juices and this means the precious nutrients and enzymes are preserved in its pristine, natural form.

Quality of the juice:

You will be one satisfied customer when it comes to the quality of the juice yield. It can extract anything you put into it till the last drop. The pulp that is ejected is so dry that it even makes us say that it is drier than most other single-gear juicer machines available on the market. Thanks to the dual-stage juicing which gives the pulp an extra squeeze to make sure every single drop of juice is extracted. Contrast its yield with a centrifugal juicer and you can see it soaring as much as 50% higher than the later. The high extraction rate of the Oscar 930 pro Electric Juicer can put any other single-gear juicer to shame. If you haven’t tasted the juice produced from a gear juicer before, you will appreciate how concentrated, delicious and sweet a juice that the Oscar can give you.

The juice is highly stable and never does it separate due to the nutrients/enzymes that are extracted with your juice. The juice may last for a few hours if you store it properly in the refrigerator, without any issues of oxidation (although it is recommended you drink the juice at once). Do not get carried away by sellers online claiming that there is no frothing/foaming in the juice, as on testing we found there is still a fair bit of froth and if you do not like it a wee bit, you may need to run the extract through another filter or sieve to get away with the froth/foam. Like all well-built gear juicers, the Oscar 930 can help reduce chemicals and pesticides in your juice. And imagine how much you can save from not having organic?

Assembly of parts is a doddle:

There are basically five parts when you need to assemble the juicer. The boxed pack comes with 2 strainers. If you need less amount of pulp in your juice, then go with the white one having finer holes. The yellow strainer with the larger holes allows you to have more pulp in the juice.  The Oscar 930 features an automatic self-cleaning mechanism that helps you save time. For example when you are done with juicing a carrot, you may pour in a cup of water and allow it to run and self-clean. Then follow it up with the next sort of juice, green leafy vegetables for instance, such that you do not mix the taste, colour and flavour. You can take all the parts apart and rinse them under running water without finding any corner difficult to reach. The strainer might be the only part that takes a little bit of time for washing with the brush provided. Though the juicing parts are non-dishwasher proof, the process of washing up should consume only about 2-3 minutes once you are used to it and overall, it should give you a joyful juicing experience.

Beware of misinformation:

You can find a lot of links to other YouTube videos with demos of the juicer. People are so enthused about the Oscar 930 Pro Juicer that they come out with many of their own YouTube videos on the web to show how easy and fast it is to use it, besides making comparison with other juicers. While they are quite helpful (alright!), watch out for some people who are inadvertently giving you misinformation on the Oscar 930. For example, there is a video which shows as if it features a mincing function if you remove the silicone rung, which in fact it doesn’t! And there are other videos that show the juicer being used counter to the brand’s instructions or users forcing the food into the machine the manner other twin gear and single auger juicers are being used. As we mentioned earlier in the review, there is hardly any need to make use of the tamper to push the fruits or veggies into the juicer as most food when you feed or drop into the chute is pulled into the machine at its own rate. This is easier and quicker on both the user as well as the juicer. Remember that pushing does not speed up the process of juicing and only applies additional, undue pressure on the Oscar juicer. So whatever be it, count on the manufacturer’s instructions as they are the one who knows the best.

Warranty Details:

The manufacturer offers you a domestic warranty of 20 years on motor and 5 years on parts and labour. The commercial warranty goes like 3 years on motor and 3 years on parts and labour.

Verdict:

The space saving Oscar Pro juicer can juice everything, even wheatgrass. With larger juicing strainers, wider augers (than horizontal single auger juicing machines), silicone brushes sweeping around the strainers, juicing bowl (to keep them tidy) and fast flowing juice, it comes as no real surprise if the Oscar 930 Pro is tagged both as a commercial and household appliance. Not to mention its high effectiveness and reasonable price tag (for some it may be high!) pertaining to usage and functionalities. And here are some test results to wrap things up: The Oscar 930 yielded greater amount of juice, a tad higher than its close contender, the Oscar Vital Max 900. The Oscar Pro yielded 38.5 oz of carrot juice to the VitalMax DA 900 Juicer’s 37 oz and mind you at a surprising nippy rate. Finally, you will be amazed at just how silent it works, particularly if you are someone who is used to the raucous noise of centrifugal juicers. What a welcome change indeed!

Kenwood AT641 Juice Extractor Review

Kenwood AT641 Vita Pro-Active Continuous Juice Extractor

If the Kenwood Chief Juicer (A935) was a mere nightmare, the Centrifugal Kenwood AT641 is fabulous.  Thanks to the pulp ejecting mechanism that enables continuous juicing action.  Talking about the brand, Kenwood has been quite popular world over for innovation, quality and superb designs integrated in several of its products. Today, Kenwood is much more than ‘Kenwood Chef’ with a wide range of kitchen and domestic appliances. The Kenwood AT641 Vita Pro-Active Continuous Juice Extractor is perfect for making all fruits and veggie juices (excluding citrus fruits) including apple, pineapple, tomato, carrot and kiwi. The juicy news: You do not have to peel, de-seed or core the fruit before juicing. So, how good is the AT641 Juicer? Let us find out more on the juicer in this review.

Design Features:

The Kenwood AT641 Juicer costs quite a lot at about £100 online, but you could see why, the materials used and build quality are top notch. The plain white colour juicer comes with an extra large feed tube which can accept large or whole pieces of fruits. The feeding chute which is circular in shape is brilliant and most vegetables and fruits do not require peeling or chopping.

Key parts: The juicer has a lid which is to be fitted in a way that ensures the lid extension fits nicely over the bowl lip. There is a pusher inside the juicer built such that it does not clog the filter or overheat the juicer unit.  When you feed the produce into the juicer machine, it is torn up and thrown against the filter sides, where you find all the liquid drawn out of the pulp.

Filter basket: The continuous centrifugal juicer has a filter basket into the bowl and in case if the juicer vibrates because of uniform pulp distribution, you need to make sure you empty the pulp from the filter.

Juice spout: The juice spout is placed in a comfortable position from the counter that allows juicing into different types of containers.

Interlocking latches: The interlocking latches help lock the juicer into position. This is achieved by moving it out from the base, and then you need to lift and clip over the mouldings on the top of the lid. Finally, you have to push the latches in at the base for a secure fit.

1 litre juice jug: The juice apparently goes into the 1litre attachable juice jug, while there is a pulp container placed at the rear which means you do not need to stop to remove the pulp. The juice extractor features a foam filter which gives you a better texture of juice in comparison to other juice models available on the market.

Cutting blades: We found the cutting blades built on to the base of the juicer’s filter basket to be pretty sharp, therefore you should be careful while you are cleaning and handling the filter basket.

High speed liquidiser outlet: Like all the chef juice extractors, this juicer comes with a high speed liquidiser outlet which is great for use with the citrus juicer attachment. The connection is very easy and whilst the machine looks tricky to set up, it actually is so simple.

Speed settings: There are two speed settings namely 1 & 2. If you are looking for maximum performance, make use of speed 2 and ensure you do not exceed speed 2.

Using the juicer:

The non-stop centrifugal juicer is to be first assembled, ensuring that the grater disc and filter basket are tightly aligned into position and the juicer lid has to be fitted over the bowl lip. Making use of the latches, it is locked into position and the machine is attached to the high speed outlet. You need to turn it until it is tightly locked. The pulp collector is then slid into the lid and then the juice jug holder is pushed into its housing and you have to fit the lid into the jug. Make sure you remove any tough skins or stones when you cut the food to fit it into the feed tube. Set the Juicer speed settings on speed 1 unless your recipe states otherwise. You need not have to core most fruits, veggies or ginger before you juice them as everything like the skins and seeds are pulped. You can also pass the coconut flesh through the juicer machine for you to get nicely grated coconut for cooking.

Making juice: Just to make things a tad easier, you need to know the type of fruits that are suitable for juicing.  So, here is a brief note on the same as recommended by the manufacturer: Make sure you always choose the freshest and finest produce possible. Hard fruits that are a bit under-ripe are pretty much better than over-ripe fruits as they may turn to pulp and tend to lose its moisture. Fruits including mango, apricot and peach whose juices are pretty thick need to be diluted with water. When you are making mixed juices with the AT641 Centrifugal Juicer, it is best you keep things as simple as possible.

Make sure you remove stones from peaches, cherries, plums, etc. The tough skins from pineapples, melons, potatoes, cucumbers, etc should be completely removed. You need to wash soft-skinned and other several other fruits such as pears, apples, cabbage, radishes, lettuce, carrots, spinach, grapes, parsley, celery, strawberries, etc thoroughly before you go about juicing them. Coming to juicing citrus fruits, ensure you peel and remove the white pith or else the juice might be bitter. Make use of the citrus juice attachment which is offered separately by the manufacturer for best results. Fruits such as celery, fennel and broccoli that are strongly favoured are best made use of in smaller quantities with other veggies or fruits, therefore they are not overpowering. The AT641 juicer can also pulp potatoes for making rosti so that you can add to scones and breads. Remember that the remaining liquid consists of pretty starch that must be thrown away. The pulp from carrots can be made use of in bread or cakes too.

Comparison with the Kenwood AT312 & A935:

AT312: The manufacturer recommends that you do not go about juicing citrus fruits using     the Kenwood AT641 and instead make use of the AT312, its citrus juice press version. We understand it is quite the opposite of what we have mentioned in the previous section. So we decided to test it out if it can juice citrus fruits and the results proved nothing short of spectacular, though the downside is that it is not easy to peel them. When you make use of the press for juicing citrus fruits, one distinct advantage is that there is no need to remove the skin and all you need to do is simply cut the orange, grapefruit, lime or other citruses into halves and squeeze it with all your might. We know you need to wash it up a bit more, but it will do you no harm juicing citruses this way and pushing in all the other vegetables and fruits in this juice extractor. Simply mix the two once you are finished.

A935: Contrast the AT641 with the A935 which requires a separate container to collect juice extracted and pulp. Mind you if these were not at a suitable height, the pump will spray all over the kitchen, while the juice splashes all over the machine. Add to the woes, the shape of the feeding chute of the A935, which is comical. Its successor, the AT641 is not only an improvement over the A935, but has some good points as well.

Cleaning is a doddle: The juicer parts are not dishwasher safe and this means you need to wipe using a damp cloth which is a breeze. In case of any discolouration of the plastic, you need to rub it with a cloth which is dipped in vegetable oil to remove it. The filter basket can be cleaned using a soft brush.

Quality standards: The AT641 juicer is compliant with EC directive 2004/108/EC & 1935/2004 of 27/10/2004 on materials built for contact with food.

Instruction manual:

You are also provided with an instruction manual which gives you a few interesting recipes as well. Refer to this instruction book for added safety warnings.

Manufacturer Warranty:

The Kenwood AT641 Juicer is covered under a manufacturer’s warranty of 1 year that begins from the original purchase date.

Conclusion:

Measuring 27cm (L) x 20cm (W) x 31cm (H), the Kenwood AT641 weighs 2.74kg, so you should have no problem carrying it. There are certain features that the AT641 is built short of, particularly the rubber feet which gives stability to the machine when it is at full throttle and an integrated cord storage that will make sure the cables are kept in place giving greater safety without cluttering your cupboard. These things apart, the AT641 has a pretty large capacity and is simple to use which is better than most Kenwood’s earlier offerings.

Breville JE15 Whole Fruit Juicer Review

Antony Worrall Thompson Breville JE15 Whole Fruit Juicer

Breville is one of the most innovative brands in small kitchen appliances and we must admit that we are a huge fan of the Hot Cup and for the JE15 Whole Fruit Juicer, Breville has teamed up with Anthony Worrall Thompson, the celebrity chef. The JE15 Whole Fruit Juicer is a beast of a machine that could you save you a lot of time and it is highly rewarding seeing the unjuiceable stuff come out through to the bin and watching the juice that is extracted come out at the other end.

As is expected nowadays on a juicer in this price point, the Breville JE15 features a big shot so as to extract the juice from whole fruits. The time you save in prepping and chopping fruit is a real boon; therefore this is a feature that should not be overlooked. Let us have a good look at the highs and lows of the Breville JE15 before we deal with the design features of the juicer.

What is hot?

  • Great safety features
  • Two speeds – one for soft & other for hard fruit/veggies
  • Pretty robust
  • Jug is handy for storing juice in refrigerator subsequently
  • Froth separator – Practical inclusion to jug for avoiding too much ‘froth’
  • Larger intake – You could pop up a full apple in it at once and there is no need to chop it up
  • Not a pain to wash up the parts

What is not?

  • Consumes a reasonable amount of kitchen counter top
  • Might spray some of the pulp about although it is designed to move into the pulp bin attached
  • Pulp bin though a good addition turns out to be another thing to wash up
  • Bit pricey
  • Juice pretty warm after juicing – One has to really add some ice or store it into the refrigerator for about half an hour

More details on its features:

The Antony Worrall Thompson Breville JE15 Whole Fruit Juicer (product code: JE15) can extract juice both from  hard  as well as soft fruits, naturally allowing to make refreshing  drinks for serving over fruity cocktails, crushed ice, winter beverages for warming with spices or for  your health routine to keep going. Starting off with the design, the JE15 juicer made of brushed stainless steel is quite a heavy machine and has a nice silver finish to it, with a heavy duty die cast metal base, but if you take into account all that power, equipment and accessories, the weight is understandable. The juicer comes in three parts namely the juice collector, pithe collector and the machine itself. Large as it may seem to be, you will be able to chop up all your apples into quarters, therefore there is no need to remove the core, kiwis and whole carrots. Breville has ensured that the juicer does not slide around when in use, courtesy its big sticky rubber feet.

Patented extra large feed tube:

The Breville JE15 Whole Fruit Juicer by Antony Worrall Thompson like most of its predecessors has a feed tube opening that is large and wide. Therefore, lesser cutting of the ingredients is needed before juicing them. The spout can take larger chunks of fruit or veggies. We had no trouble feeding apples into them and no chopping was necessary. Besides, this juicer is great for carrots, but not good for spinach, wheatgrass or soft fruits including watermelon, strawberry, etc. Therefore, if you are looking for a separate juicer to juice wheatgrass, then check out reviews on wheatgrass juicers from quality brands including Lexen, Z-Star, etc on our website.

How does it work?

Just insert the whole fruit into the JE1 Juicer machine through the large feed tube and then you have to select the right type of speed, obviously one for the soft and the other for the hard fruit. The mighty 950W functions pretty efficiently and quickly to create the juice. To separate the unwanted pulp from the extracted juice and ensuring that your drink is completely lump-free and smooth is a stainless steel micro-mesh filter. The juice produced is then filled into the 1 litre juice jug that works like a froth-separator, whilst the 2-litre pulp container collects the unwanted pulp which you can easily remove for easy and quick cleaning.

Performance:

Powerful 950W motor:

The Breville JE15  Professional juicer is driven by a powerful 950W motor and delivers exceptional performance which puts it in the same league as that of the ever-popular Philips HR1861 built with a 700W motor. The biggest advantage of the high powered engine is that it could extract maximum amount of juice from the produce as indicated by the dryer pulp that is left over.  It will cost a lot more if you go for a blender with the same amount of power. The high power of the motor gives the juice extracted a warm effect and so, you need to really place it in the refrigerator for about half an hour or add ice to it before serving it. A downside to this rather mighty motor is the noise which can be annoying at times.

Two speeds:

The on/off power switch is a small utilitarian, though it features heavy duty metal construction. The juicer is built with the facility to go at two speeds and therefore harder fruits and veggies (that are more often than not tricky to juice well in cheaper juicers) could be nicely juiced making use of the higher speed.

When it comes to the pith residue, it is best to put it through twice if you like to have all the juice out. You can get fabulous results with the citrus fruits through on low speeds for the first time and then the second time around making use of the fast speed. There is another drawback when you are juicing lemons, oranges or any fruit having seeds in its flesh and therefore you need to segregate the segments so as to get rid of the pips from your fruit before you put the portions into the machine. It does exactly as it says in the manual, though it makes the job slightly difficult to do.

Two litre capacity pulp container:

The pulp container is quite large with a capacity of 2 litres and built to fit a regular plastic grocery bag to catch all the pulp for trouble-free clean up (this proved really nice). As the pulp is quite dry for a centrifugal juicer machine with the pulp container being so large, you will have no trouble juicing continually for several minutes before you need to empty the pulp container. Disappointingly, the major problem with the juicer is washing the pulp container. Fortunately, there are shortcuts like placing a small plastic bag in the pulp container for making it easier to clear the pulp out. Overall, we feel that the pulp container is a great addition; however it is another thing to wash it up.

Froth separating juice jug:

Like the juicer itself, you will find the pitcher brilliantly built with a froth separator that is adjustable. There are juice recipes that leave froth residue on the top of the extracted juice and whilst there are some who like to enjoy the froth, others would rather want to have their juice without it. Whatever be it, you can depend on the cleverly designed easy slide froth separator that lets you take as much or as little froth as you desire. To put things in a nutshell, Breville’s froth separating design would keep the head off the fresh veggies and fruit creation.

Stainless steel micro-mesh filter:

We liked the stainless steel micro-mesh filter as this looks a bit different than most centrifugal juicer machines reviewed. Its design is such that it could squeeze out every bit of juice and provides you with more of it. This said, cleaning the filter can be time consuming, but this is important if hygiene matters.

No integrated cord storage:

The Breville JE15 950 Watts juicer lacks cord storage, the integration of which would have made the juicer look spick and span on your kitchen counter and stopped cables to potential hazards.

Cleaning the parts is a breeze:

Hand washing the machine after a juicing session could be a chore, though the mucky bits would be pretty happy in your dishwasher. You can rinse the various parts followed by a brush provided alongside the product. The only dishwasher unfriendly part is the motor unit. You can also make use of a liner in the pulp container so as to reduce cleaning.

Antony’s top recipes:

The Breville JE15 Juicer comes complete with an Instruction manual and Antony’s top recipes, a booklet that will help you get started to juicing in no time.

Box Contents:

1 x Juicer, 1 x Lid, 1 x Pulp Container, 1 x Juice Jug, 1 x Micro-mesh Filter, 1 x Fruit Plunger, 1 x Recipe & Instruction Booklet.

Manufacturer warranty:

The Antony Worrall Thompson Breville JE15 Juicer is covered under a one year manufacturer’s warranty against manufacturing defects starting from the original date of purchase.

Verdict:

What was good about the Breville JE15 2-Speed Whole Fruit Juicer is that we tried several combination of fruits from frozen to fresh fruits, it delivered superb results. We also bought fresh fruits to go in with frozen fruits; this gave it a pleasant chill to it as well. When it comes to cleaning, you will find that most parts can go in your dishwasher with only the really harder parts that require hand wash.  We thought it was a little pricey at about £125 at first, but we did a little bit of research online to find the cheapest price possible. We feel perhaps the most expensive part of the juicer should be the 950Wmotor. So what else can one say? The juicer is a cute one; it has a pretty nice design; works remarkable well and so on. We also suppose the value is quite good and we have no hesitation rating the juicer a step above its predecessors if we had to. Whatever be it, having a fresh juice that tastes absolutely delicious at the start of the day with the minimum of hassles is really great!

Braun MPZ 6 Citrus Press Review

Braun Multiquick 3 Citrus Juicer (MPZ 6)

About Braun MPZ6 Citromatic Citrus Press:

Braun, an award winning brand is never short of quality performance and innovation. Having bagged the ‘Kitchen Innovation of the Year 2009′ award, Braun has transformed itself to become one of the most popular brands for kitchen and household products including Juicers & Citrus Presses. This time around, we will take you through Braun Multiquick 3 Citrus Juicer (MPZ 6) that can extract vitamin-rich juices thoroughly in no time and just how you like to have them.

Powered by 20-60 watt motors, we feel that the Braun MPZ 6 Citromatic Citrus Press is definitely a huge improvement over hand juicers. The only downside is that the juicer is limited to only juicing citrus; they are not at all good at making anything except citrus juice.

Citrus juicers:

Before we get into what makes this Braun MPZ6 Citromatic Citrus Juicer amongst the top available models, may be a brief explanation would be in order. A Citrus juicer is neither an all purpose juicer nor blender. All Citrus juicers have a reamer, basically a ribbed dome on which we can place a half citrus for juicing, whether they are manual or electric.

This Braun Citromatic Citrus Press allows you to enjoy the excitingly fresh taste of refreshing orange, tangerine, grapefruit, and mandarin besides other citrus juices and savour the wide range of complex vitamin C, as nature intended. All Braun Citromatic Models thrive on a simple principle – ‘Compact design, easy handling and cleaning’.

Design features:

The MPZ 6 Citromatic Citrus Press come only in one colour – white with the housing made of plastic and without doubt, compact in design and fairly easy to clean. The Citromatic Citrus Press is a Reamer-type Electric juice maker that is plugged into a power outlet to automatically ream out the liquid content of the citrus fruit. The bottom-line is that they have the capacity to make more juice from citrus and tend to be less messy when extracting large quantities of orange or lemon juice. This means you do not have to squeeze the juice hard out by hand and no longer worry about pits or not getting enough juice out of the fruit.

Construction:

The Braun Citromatic MPZ6 Juicer comes with an adjustable pulp control by which you can turn the juice container at its base and the opening where the pulp is actually held back can be adjusted, either widened or narrowed. Therefore, citrus fruits be it from mandarins, oranges, grapefruits, lemons or limes, you can decide the right amount of pulp content in your juice for serving kids at breakfast or for cocktails for guests at home in the evenings. Note that the fruit pulp content is higher at the left, dark end and lower at the right, light end of the pulp scale.

Removing the juicer top was pretty easy for us. It also comes with a left and right reamer rotation for greater juice extraction. The juicer works with a pressure activated cone. Also, a dust cover comes along with the package. The Braun Citromatic MPZ6 Juicer machine has a powerful 20 watt motor perfect for the juicing of citrus fruits.

Making juice:

To operate the Citromatic juicer, simply, place your half piece of citrus flat side down (means that you are having the peel in your hand) and press down the citrus onto the star shaped reamer. Now, the reamer will start to rotate, juicing the citrus. The reamer automatically stops rotating, when you remove the pressure. The rotation varies between clockwise and counter clockwise directions depending upon how long you have been reaming one piece of fruit.

Having the head rotate in both directions accounts for efficient juicing of the fruits. The juice first pools into a plastic screen provided to take out seeds and most but not all of the pulp, and then drains into a small bowl. The advantage is that you do not have to gnaw upon the leftover pulp inside the peels when you are done with the Citromatic. Also when making grapefruit juice, we found it left a lot of the pulp inside the peel, while lemon and orange peel came quite clean.

The pulp that remains in the strainer will be great for those recipes requiring fruit pulp and you can get it quite effortlessly. The strainer leaves it on the ridge and you can just scoop it up. Remove the jug from the motor block before you serve the juice.

Bowl with scale:

The bowl is fairly small that can hold a little over 350 ml (12 fl. oz) or about one and a half cups. This may appear like a small volume and we suppose for large families who want fresh-squeezed lime or orange juice all around. But it is quite fine for two people who use it for juicing lemons and limes for cooking or as mixers. There is a calibrated scale on the transparent plastic bowl to indicate the amount of juice accumulated. However, there is no lid included for the MPZ 6 20-Watts Citrus juicer.

Easy to clean & assemble:

As for washing, it was quick and easy for us. The strainer is made of plastic and pretty easy to wash. It fits well over the container and consists of a big hole in the top having a plastic ridge. It still achieves its purpose but there are no ridges that are difficult to clean. Last of all is the cone part that goes on top; this is where you can place your fruit and it rotates back and forth to juice. Cleaning, it doesn’t seem like a problem at all. Once you are done with the washing, you can put it back together in no time. We retorted the cone into the strainer and it sat on top of the container. We then set it on the base, which was also simple and then plugged it in. You need not even have to remove the cone and strainer, as they worked like a lid. The strainer has somewhat like a handle that goes well over the handle of the container and it works like a charm.

Dishwasher safe:

The juicing head, pulp filter and bowl can all go in the dishwasher and clean up very quickly. The plastic parts seem to have all held up pretty well, with only the most superficial of usual wear on the bowl and no damage of note.

Cable storage:

The base unit is too small that it fits under the bowl completely and rarely needs any cleaning at all. There is practical cord storage on the bottom of the appliance that ensures the cables are kept in place, so it will not clutter your cupboard and also provide maximum safety. Remove the jug from the motor block to unwind as much cord as you need.

Cord:

One of the plus points of the juicer is the cord. The cord has a nice, long length for you to move your juicer around the counter freely. Also, when you are finished using it, the electric cord wraps around the base unit and nicely tucks into a groove provided to hold it for a neat appearance and compact storage.

Item Description:

  • Motor block
  • Pulp scale
  • Jug
  • Strainer
  • Cone
  • Cord storage

Warranty:

The manufacturer warrants the Braun Multiquick 3 Citrus Juicer (MPZ 6) to be free of manufacturing defects for a period of one year.

Use & Care:

Never put motor block in water or other liquid. Always remember to unplug the appliance before cleaning.

Summary:

The juicer is quite efficient, in that it can give you 12 ounces of juice out of 3 large seedless orange and you can juice dozens of limes or lemons at a time for cocktail ingredients. The bottom-line is that the MPZ 6 does not take up much space. The only downside is that you have to be careful or you might chip the pulper when you are washing up, which is not a big issue at all. Having said that, most customers have had it for years with only one chip that is still going strong.

Kitchen Craft Lever Action Juicer Review

KCJUICEDL – Kitchen Craft Deluxe Chrome Plated Citrus Juicer

Citrus Juicers generally make use of lever action so as to press the most of the juice out of half a piece of citrus fruits. These citrus juicers are quite efficient and both counter top and hand held versions are available on the market online. The Kitchen Craft Lever Action Juicer is an effective manual squeezer for citrus fruits like oranges and other fruits. The juicer is a hit with the kids which makes it all the more fun. Talking about the brand, Kitchen Craft is one of the most established kitchenware companies in the UK supplying a whole range of dining, kitchen and houseware items to major department stores, cookshops, mail order companies, garden centres, china & glass specialists and gift shops both in the UK and globally.

Manual Juicer with lever action:

The Kitchen Craft Deluxe Chrome Plated Lever-Arm Juicer (product code: KCJUICEDL) is ideal not only for oranges but any fruit you name with juice including Pomegranate, raspberry, grapes, etc. We understand there a lot of products available online that makes it easier to juice stuff, but when not in use, the Kitchen craft does the job of juicing reasonably well. There is no need for anyone to have upperbody strength to apply the much required force and govern the lever action. All it requires is some little force and there you are; fresh natural goodness with a simple, easy squeeze. Built from heavy duty metal with a chrome finish that is acid resistant, the Kitchen Craft juicer can really last long and needs minimal resistance. The chrome finish in addition adds a touch of class and beauty to this superb juice maker. With a space saving design, the juicer is built with a real sturdy body that has been specifically designed for rugged and tough use. The juicer parts are also constructed from acid resistant material. The height of the juicer can be a problem for some users and many of them like to place it on the kitchen shelf itself.  The juicer comes with almost all the features that any juice lover can demand for.

Rack & pinion gear mechanism:

The geared pressure lever rack ensures that no great deal of pressure is needed for squeezing the fruit. Also the rack and pinion gear mechanism makes sure that the force is exerted downwards and not laterally, thereby adding additional stability to the juicer machine. It could exert up to 800lbs of pressure on the fruit without too much of an effort making sure a reasonable quantity of juice is extracted from the fruit.  We tested the juicer with 2 medium sized oranges and although the result was not incredible, it was fair enough for a manual juicer that is supplied at a market price of £25 online.

Collector cup & strainer:

The remains of the fruit like peel, pulp, pith, etc are restricted to the strainer cone whilst the juice just flows into the collector cup below. Unlike most juicers, the strainer cone is completely detachable and it helps in easy cleaning. Another highlight of the juicer is that the handle of the juicer offers you a comfortable grip and this means you are under no real strain holding the handle every time you add more fruits that are to be juiced. The cone & cup are made of stainless steel and are dishwasher safe.

Bottom-line:

We recommend the Kitchen Craft KCJUICEDL Citrus Juicer for those who like to have their juice only fresh. Simple to assemble and disassemble, the clean citrus juicer is ideal for every household as part of a healthy diet or to make party drinks and cocktail. Another point is that the juice is highly acidic, therefore you have to be sure that the juicer is built with non-reactive materials. The juicer will obviously last longer than you will have expected and not cause the juicer output to taste funny.
