Wheatgrass juice undoubtedly is one of nature’s richest sources of chlorophyll and the concentration of vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients is pretty high compared to other fruits and veggies. Regular intake of Wheatgrass juice can prove highly beneficial and function as a rebuilder, natural body cleanser and neutralizer of body toxins. Just as a quick reminder, we have already seen their beneficial effects earlier in our review on Lexen Manual Healthy Wheatgrass Juicer. Said this, you do not have to buy an expensive juicer or visit your local juicer bar to buy a shot. With the Z-Star Manual Juicer from Tribest, it is really easy and reasonable to juice wheatgrass in your home, or on the move.

Coming to the brand, Tribest Life brings you high quality home appliances including sprouters, juicers, blenders, humidifiers, yoghurt & soymilk makers and other lifestyle products & accessories that will energize your life and help maintain a healthy lifestyle. The upcoming review is an account of some of the features of Z-Star Manual Juicer that we found pretty useful.

Design features:

The Z-star is definitely a good looking manual juicer and does not look out of place in the most modern of kitchens. At first sight, it was immediately obvious that the Tribest Z-Star Manual Juicer (product code: Z-510) is going to consume less space in the kitchen than some of the other electric powered juicers. Setting up the Z-star for use was a doddle and it could have been accomplished even without reading the instructions in the manual. The Z-Star manual juicer features an exclusive single-auger design and makes use of a highly gentle and effective process to extract more amount of superb quality juice from your preferred fruit and veggies, without the need for electrical power. Weighing 3 kg, it is light and easy to carry, making it perfect for travelling and most people use it at home. You just clamp it on a smooth level surface and feed in your favourite fruits and vegetables. It requires only a few turns of your arm to savour the advantages of nutritious juice.

Assembly:

It is quite simple to assemble the juicer. The Z-Star Wheatgrass Juicer is securely attached to your kitchen worktop by a G-clamp. You will find that both the G-clamp and the juicer base have rubber grips to avoid any damage to your work surface. The main body of the juicer is made of aluminium which is nicely painted to give a rust free juicing environment. Most juicers currently available on the market are made of plastic. The juice screen is made of stainless steel and you are also provided with a toothbrush type screen for cleaning the screen. You can view the effect of the auger as it crushes and presses out the juice of the produce. The crank handle that you could turn to make the auger turn is easily removable. Therefore, when you are not using the juicer, you can eliminate the amount of room that the juicer consumes.

How it works:

Here is how you operate the juicer; first place the base of the juicer at the edge of your table top or counter. Now, fix the teeth of the table clamp right into the groove in the base of the juicer. Now securely attach the juicer to a table top or counter by tightening the screw. Next, the handle should be attached to the base and the Auger be placed in the Auger Housing. The Auger housing should be slid into the Retaining Ring of the Auger Housing. While you are holding the housing stable, turn the retaining ring of the Auger Housing to lock it in place. Next, the juicing screen is to be put into the front end of the Auger Housing. Ensure the juicing nozzle is placed securely inside the Screen Locking Cap. The screen locking must be put over the screen and lock into position. Finally, put the funnel into the Auger Housing and place the Juice container under the juice outlet and use a separate container to catch the pulp. There is also a plunger provided to push down materials and make sure you always make use of it even for pushing baby carrots in. Hope this information helps and in case you want more information, you can refer to the manual which is pretty basic but covers all the much needed information such as assembling and disassembling the Z-Star and cleaning instructions.

Less amount of pulp:

In actual use, the Z-star juicer is well built and feels quite solid. Tribest, the juicer manufacturer recommends that besides using the juicer for juicing wheatgrass, the Z-star Juicer Machine can be used for juicing several fruits and veggies as well as leafy greens. Undoubtedly, the Z-star juicer can juice wheatgrass quite efficiently. We found the wheatgrass pulp relatively dry and was efficiently expelled through the pulp ejection hole at the end of the manual juicer. If you wish you can also reefed the pulp back through the Z-star juicer to extract any remaining juice. The juice does not seem to contain a large amount of froth as produced by most electric powered twin juicers. Also feeding wheatgrass through this manual juicer took no longer than feeding it through an electric juicer and also not much effort is needed for turning the crank handle. We tested the Z-Star by feeding in carrots, but a great deal of pressure was needed to push the carrot down onto the Auger. The carrot juice also had a great amount of pulp and so we found it easy to put the juice through a sieve. The juicer had no problem ejecting the carrot pulp. The juicer also managed to juice apples though the pulp ejection system tends to clog up and we had to dismantle the juicer to clear the blockage. The juice produced this time around was quite pulpy, therefore it is advisable that you do not use the Z-star for juicing large quantities of fruit and vegetables, but is definitely capable of juicing small amounts, though the juice extracted may contain quite a large amount of pulp.

Juice Jug:

There is a design flaw with the Tribest Z-Star manual juicer and that has been the juice jug that catches the juice. It fits nicely into the juicer body, no problem here, but its length extends up to right underneath the pulp ejection hole. This means that sometimes the ejected pulp falls into the juice jug, thereby introducing more pulp into the juice. We are not sure of how the manufacturer could have overlooked such a simple design fault. However, there is a simple solution to it and that is using an alternative vessel for catching the juice produced in.

Dis-assembly:

It normally takes 30 seconds to disassemble the juicer, although we found that when juicing carrots, the unlocking end part of the Z-star had formed some type of vacuum seal containing all the pulp that had been forced up against the juicer’s pulp ejection section. It called for a good minute of effort in twisting the end so as to unlock the machine.

Cleaning is a breeze:

Cleaning the juicer parts was comparatively easy and as with all juicer machines, if you wash immediately after juicing, it becomes a lot easier when you have let the juice pulp dry onto the juicing screen. Never use hot or boiling water (above 40 degree C) for cleaning the unit and parts as this results in deformation or other damages. Remember that the juicer is not dishwasher safe. Use of any beach or harsh chemicals when you are cleaning the juicer parts may also prove detrimental. Never dismantle any of the juicer parts other than those necessary for running the machine or cleaning of your juice produced. There is a brush provided so as to easily clean the screen cylinder.

Things to watch out for:

Make sure you cut the materials into smaller lengthwise pieces. If the operation is very noisy, check out if the unit is levelled on a flat surface. Make sure there are no foreign materials inside as the Auger Housing will not fit onto the main body. Sometimes, juice may leak from the back housing which means either the Auger ring is loose and requires reassembling or you have reloaded the unit.  In this case, you have to reduce the amount of material being fed into the machine. Putting any articles such as spoons, knives or forks into the feeding chute or placing fingers into it while the machine is in operation may prove pretty dangerous. The countertop or table to clamp on to must not be more than 2.75″ thick and should be at least 2″ deep.

Manufacturer warranty:

The product is covered under a manufacturer warranty period of 1 year against defects in materials and workmanship from the original date of purchase.

Summary:

Overall, we found the Z-Star a brilliant wheatgrass juicer that comes with the ability to juice small amounts of fruits or veggies if necessary. The Z-Star will be perfect if you already have a fruit and vegetable juicer and want to start taking wheatgrass juicer without your having to purchase another pricier wheatgrass juicer sold on the market. The Z-Star is really good for those who want to juice mainly wheatgrass, but at the same time would wish to dilute the taste with apple juice or vegetable. With a melamine FDA approved auger, the juicer performs exceedingly well when it comes to juicing your wheatgrass and then sticking a couple of carrots or apples through. For those short on time, the juicer is preferable to the more complex assembly and cleaning of the larger twin gear juicer machines. However, it is not recommended for making peanut butter as the pressure can be quite high and the cleaning up of the greasy assembly is not worth it. And never use the Z-Star for banana, mango, strawberry and the sorts that are best prepared in blenders or smoothie makers for a shake. Perhaps, the best part about this manual juicer is the price tag which is less than £100.
